I tried refilling a PG-40 cartridge. Each time I got a couple of good dark pages, then too light to read. Jabbed some more ink in - a few good pages again. Learned about popping the top here, and there's a ton of ink in there. What is the specific problem with overfilling cartridges? Just mess? Or is there a technical aspect? I didn't reset any chip, because I didn't get an error. Just faint pages. (And also because I'm a BCI 3 and 6 refiller, and I'm spoiled. So I never learned to reset.)

Advice? (Other than sticking with my 780?)

I think the main problem are tiny air bubbles trapped inside the sponge. Insert the needle as far as possible to the bottom of the cartridge, but take care not ot pierce the metal sieve underneath or your cartridge will become "kaputt". Then slowly inject the ink into the cartridge without elevating the needle: the air is now pushed upwards and the ink will fill up the pores of the sponge as much as possible.

If possible buy a bottom puller to pull out the last remnants of air from the nozzles.
