Hello everyone!

I want to buy a Canon MG5150 and I don't know how easy is to refill the cartridges.
I know that PGI-525/CLI-526 are more difficult to refill than the PGI-520 but I saw that the refill can be done(and also maybe in April or May a cip reseter would be available)
But what about disabling the ink monitor? It is possible to be done on MG5150?
I heard that if the PGI-525 gets below one quarter the printer software automatically switch to the color tanks for printing the black, so any refill attempts must be done before the cartridge gets
below one quarter. Is this true?

Also if you have other suggestion for all-in-one printers in the same price range with MG5150 please tell me.

Thank you

If you want to refill the MG5150 you can do so by using the 520s cartridges.
Just replace the 525 cartridges as they empty with the 520s as these
cartridges are much easier to fill then the 525s are.

When your cartridge runs out of ink you can remove the chip from the 525 cartridge
and put it on the 520 and that will enable you to continue to print and refill.

You will however have to disable the ink monitoring and your printer will continue to print as normal
but you will have to keep on eagle eye on the ink levels yourself.

Below is a link to chip removal made easy.. :)

Thanks for the info.

So the ink monitor on MG5150 can be disabled?
The printer will not automatically switch to CLI tanks when the PGI tank get bellow 1/4 ?

No, the PGI tank contains pigment black ink and is only used if you specified plain paper.

The CLI black ink is dye based and is used if you specify a photo paper.

When the ink monitor is working, it will track the ink all the way until there is none left or at least it thinks there is none left.
