I have a Canon Maxify MB2720 which is designed to be a heavier workload printer for a business environment. I am using it for home duties, meaning very seldom printing (mostly use it for the scanner). My previous inkjet was a Brother, of which is 10+ years old now and my secret to success has been to simply do a nozzle check pattern print once a week to keep the ink from drying out. Now with this Canon, I am doing the same thing, however it seems like if I do NOT do regular printing every few days, it will go through a long auto self cleaning process before anything gets printed, including nozzle check patterns. This is weird because I would not have considered a week between prints as being seldom.
So I am just wondering if anyone knows what Canon has setup for their automated self cleaning routines? Unlike Brother which seems to auto run the self cleaning on it's own under inactivity, Canon's strategy seems to be to run the self cleaning after XX time of inactivity, but only right before something is getting printed. Personally I am not a fan of this because this means I should do a nozzle check print every 2-3 days tops...otherwise if I do a weekly nozzle check print, it will go through the self cleaning which unnecessarily wastes ink and worse yet, possibly resulting in filling of the waste ink reservoirs prematurely. How fast do these self cleaning routines plug up the waste tank?
Thoughts?
