Canon IP8700 Magenta Fading Issue

Hi all - I'm having a problem with an IP8760 printer where the magenta channel intermittently fades out with printing continuing with the other inks only. Printing a nozzle check confirms the absence of magenta, as does printing a magenta purge patch. Replacing the magenta cartridge has no effect. Removing all cartridges and the printhead, cleaning the contacts on both the printhead carriage and the printhead with isopropyl alcohol and reinstating the head and the same cartridges results in magenta reappearing, but it fades away and disappears again soon after. The printhead is almost new and I am using all OEM inks. Any suggestions as to where to look from here?

Sounds like an intermittent contact or carriage issue rather than the cartridge itself. Since magenta comes back after reseating the head, I’d suspect either a slightly failing printhead connector, flex cable, or something not maintaining stable contact once it heats/vibrates. If it keeps dropping only that channel, the printhead itself could still be faulty even if it’s “new”.
