Canon IP4500 printer tray problem

I have one of the above printers which throws up the error message "Cannot print because the printer tray is closed"

The tray is very much OPEN and I'm wondering if someone would help me discover what the problem is.

Is there a sensor somewhere which is causing this problem?

I'm very grateful for any help.

I haven't had your problem so I can't help you directly, but there is obviously a problem with the sensor. See if this helps:

It's possible a tab is broken so the sensor doesn't close to indicate the tray is open:
