Canon IP3000 black ink problem

The only other suggestion I would have is to try photo black in the cartridge instead of the pigment and see if that gives a different result..:|

Would you describe the problem as the printout fades from normal to not printing gradually or does it just cut off completely all at once?

The printout fades from normal to nothing gradually. The rate at which it fades varies with page coverage.
