RE: Canon MP210. I bought a new Canon 51 ink cartridge. Although the info with the printer calls for a 31 or 41 cartridge, I understand that 31, 41 and 51 are all kissing cousins with the only difference being the amount of ink a cartridge holds. The MP210 will not recognize the 51 cartridge although it fits correctly. Is there a way one can circumvent the system and get the 51 cartridge to work?

No. The kissing cousins arrangement is this. If you purchased a more expensive ( not as cheap really) model that specified a 51 then you can use the smaller 41 and 31. If however, you purchased a printer model that specified a 31 for example you CANNOT move up into a higher capacity model. This is to force you into purchasing a more expensive model from the beginning if you want to get more economical printing via higher capacity cartridges

You can move down in capacity but not up. Hp printers practiced the strategy and that's where Canon probably learn t this strategy from.
