Sure, It's possible to get some bad ink but not if you stay with a supplier with a good track record. Do some research. I don't know about HP printers but I've used a third party ink supplier for 3 years and my Epson is still printing great full color prints and I have yet to get a clogged head. The so called secret seems to be to print a lot and at least a full color page every day. That isn't hard when ink costs pennies instead of the big bucks! Even when we went away on a trip for 2 weeks the printer was fine! All the printer manufactures warn people to not use inks other then what they offer. Scare tactics work pretty good. It keeps a lot of folks paying 18 to 20 bucks for a teaspoon of ink!

I have no doubt the manufacturers sell the printers at a loss, or near loss, and then "require" factory new cartridges, or ink tanks at a substantial profit..
