I'm asking because I use cheap ink and I'd like to be able to "flush the printer" regularly if possible. Technique? FAQ? I've had good results with Ammonia/Water on the printhead so I'm hoping to replicate this, if possible.

Thanks guys. Longtime lurker, new member.

My experience with MIS and with Precision Color inks (manufactured by Imaging Specialist) would indicate that regular flushing of the printhead is not necessary. Good quality inexpensive compatable inks like IS, Hobbicolors, and Formulabs inks tend to flush the printhead themselves when a cleaning cycle is run. If there is a clog you can then run a cleaning cart or use other techniques for clearing the clogged nozzles. i've never flushed the printhead on my wife's ip5000 Canon printer, and my i960 printer, on its second printhead, has worked just fine for five years without printhead flushing. prevously purchase my ink from MIS and now from Precision Colors. Neither printer has ever had OEM Canon ink run through it.
