As you are not getting the results as expected with the color adjustment mode you may go and get a custom icc-profile for your ink and paper.

Companies like Marrutt offer you to create a custom icc profile for you for free if you buy papers from them

You may search for a similar offer in your country and look as well for a service doing icc-profiles for you - I have seen that even on Ebay.

Thank, will look into that. Seems like some settings override others and many of the default profiles that come w Ps come out the same. So rather frustrating

Colour management can be like rainy days..
It’s sometimes easier to come to terms with them..

Yea. Might be that I just have to go back to editing the image to look like a unicorn puked on the screen to get the correct colors out of the printer
Or bite the bullet and buy a printer with profiles and paper and hopefully get it closer.

Biggest issue is I try to match the prints I do with a print I got some time ago from printer place. So I got a "correctly colored" paper copy in hand but nothing I do seem to agree with it

I'm not clear what is so unique of the print from the 'printer place', they most likely use icc-profiles for their papers and inks, it is very well possible that they use Epson inks on Epson papers and print with an Epson printer - or print on a Canon printer with Canon inks and papers . Get an icc-profile to verify.

Nothing unique about it other than I want my own print to be the same colors.
So I had hoped to be able to adjust/calibrate it somewhat maybe without doing a ICC-profile.
But it seems like doing a ICC-profile is the only option.

Turn your printer on and set the media to glossy paper and print using high quality, this test sample that was provided by Ink stained Ink stained Fingers above...

Don’t use any other settings and just click print..

Now view the printed sample to the one you have on your computer screen, that should tell you all you want to know..

Printed the test image.
First print was accidentally w "color match monitor". That one looks OK but a tad dull/flat but the colors swatches look close. The white children look a bit bright and pink/blue compared to the warmer yellow-ish on the monitor.
The other print without the color match is darker over all. Same dull feel, just darker more full colors.
The white children are more red. Looks like they have a fewer kinda.

So w monitor match color ticked in I am close but a but "lackluster".

At least my Brother MFC-5895 prints with black ink only with Inkjet paper type, on other paper types it mixes the CMY to make black, and that results in bad ICC profile, and very wrong colors. You need to first determine the proper driver settings for your printer to print clean black, then adjust color adjustment sliders in the printer to get best output. All automatic adjustments are better left OFF. Only then you can get repeatable results, that is very important in making printer OK print with ICC profile, and also without it you are better adjusting things manually.
