My friend uses BCI-6 cartridge in a printer which uses BCI-3e cartridges. The dimensions for these two types of cartridges are the same. Therefore, a BCI-3e printer will accept BCI-6 cartridges.

What is the different between them? They must be different otherwise Canon will not name them differently.

Inktec supplies different refill ink for the BCI-3e dye inks and the BCI-6 dye inks so there must be a difference but I don't know if it is significant.

I use BCI-3e cartridges to refill for my BCI-6 printers. Empties tend to be cheaper on eBay and they work just as well.

I understand now. It is the BCI-6 ink that you use and not the cartridge. Therefore, the BCI-6 and BCI-3e ink are difference.
