What does half a refill mean?

Also, I would suggest that you take your spare MP830 out of the box. I left my spare MP760 in the box for many years until I finally needed it recently and the scanner glass was coated with a residue which I believe came from the styrofoam. It coated both the inside and outside.

I stopped counting at 400 (over 3.5 years).

the .5 refill is just topping off a 1/2 empty cart. i refill using squeeze bottles, most of my effort is setting up to refill, so i usually top off any 1/2 empty carts and then reset them.

here's a link w/pics to see my squeeze bottle setup: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4450

G, thx for the styrofoam heads up. took the spares out of their boxes a while ago, never updated my .sig.

so just under 100 refills in 2 years, looks light compared to others

I don't count refills, I keep track of ink consumption. So far each color has gone through about 350 ml of ink, totaling about 1.4 liters of ink! Not even counting the 150 ml of pigment black. Since I refill before the ink runs out I'd say it's close to about 60-70 refills on the smaller cli-221 carts.

I recommend topping off all of the dye ink cartridges whenever any one of them issues a low ink warning (reservoir empty). This will minimize wasted ink and, I believe, forstall the need for purging the cartridges.

agreed topping off makes sense, see below for some more numbers to share

my 4 CLI-8's are original, each 2 years old, each cartridge refilled about 12-14 times, never purged

the PGI-5 was replaced 6 months ago, refilled 23 times since then, never purged

refill supplies for my 100 refills ran about $120, comes out to $1.20 a refill. plenty of refill ink still to use, so that $1.20 will come down over time.

$1.20 compared to approx $15.00 for a new canon cartridge comes out to savings of $13.80 per refill.

$13.80 x 100 refills = $1,380 in savings by bending the rules......
