A Simple Way to Purge..

Not sure what the pic represents. Please explain a little.

Mine? You put one end on the syringe, and the other end on the cartridge.

I use topfilling to refill my cartridges. For purging I use a large 30ml syringe that exactly fits the refill hole. Usually four or five flushes (using force) are sufficient. I use the paper towel method to dry the cartridge.

ThrillMozila, I cant make out the pic you posted . I can see plastic tubing with the blue lettering but the rest ?????????? Can you explain. I originally asked if its possible to flush a cart using the outlet and pushing the dirty water out of the vent.??? All my carts do not have a top fill hole. I use the german method for refilling by drilling a hole down low into the sponge area. I prefer not open up a hole on top of the cart.

If you use my adapter, yes you can. In fact, after refilling I like to draw a couple of drops of distilled water through the vent to clear it out if I have made a little mistake. But you can easily draw a lot of water through the vent if you want. You can also use a purging solution without wasting much.

I think the problem with the picture in post #8 is the reflection from a glass plate(?). When I saw the picture I thought: "What is that?" until I recognised a "Freedom Method" refill adapter, probably lying on a glass table.

I use a Freedom Refill adapter for flushing and can confirm that it works well. But if you refill using the top fill method, the flushing method suggested by mikling in post #4 is simpler and quicker. If you refill using the German method you can flush by injecting a lot of water into the ink chamber and continuing to add water until the cartridge is clean.

Edit: I see that ThrillaMozilla has now edited his post #8, and added a good explanation, so I recommend reading the update, to understand how purging with a "Freedom Refill" adapter works.

I will just add some advice. When testing this new purging method, it is a good idea to use a cartridge that is already purged. You will be surprised to find out how much ink is left in an "empty" cartridge and what a mess even diluted ink can cause. For testing new refill methods I recommend using water to refill the flushed and clean cartridge, until you get used to the new method, and are ready to start using ink. I also recommend the use of Luer Lock syringes and needles.

It's not a reflection, it's a shadow. And whatever your refill method, I think you will find that this is about the easiest and most efficient way to get liquid into and out of the whole sponge.

Obviously, my adapter works like the others in this thread. One difference may be that mine is vacuum-tight for Freedom Filling.
