right now canon USA has a great deal on it's refurb'd MX870's for $79 w free shipping, 5 inks carts alone run $65.

MX870 uses semi transparent non-opaque carts:
- PGI-220 (Pigment Black)
- CLI-221 (Black/Cyan/Magenta/Yellow)

if i did not have "way too many" backup/spare printers still in boxes i'd be all over the $79 deal

The IP3600 on Amazon for $78.52 with free shipping (and no tax). Also sold directly from Canon for $70 with free shipping and free pack 4x6 photo paper. Probably is taxed but you come out ahead and you get one from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Downside to internet shopping is if you have to return something, so see if Canon/Amazon make you pay return shipping on a defective printer.

Looks like the IP3600 and the MX870 use the same print head (QY6-0073).

there is a difference between the IP3600(compact photo printer) and MX870(office all in one) both footprint and feature-wise.

both use the same 5 ink carts and print head. for $9 more the $79 MX870 has WIFI, ADF, duplex, FAX, etc.

Also. the IP3600 will have a new printer warranty and the MX870 is a more limited refurb warranty.
