Just a final post on this topic. It appears that swapping carts fixed the problem finally. I'm not sure if it was swapping the 8bk or 8y that fixed it. It will be months before I have to swap another cart since I rarely use the printer. If the problem reappears when I have to change the...
I replaced the yellow cart today, when removing the old cart I see that the ink output port on the cart is black and it appears that black has been sucked up into the cart as well. If this doesn't fix it I don't know what else to do. Both blacks are now genuine Canon carts.
I checked those pads. There was no visible pooling. I folded up a paper towel and then twisted it up so I could reach in. I pressed on the pads and a little ink soaked up on the end of the paper towel but I wouldn't call it a lot.
Is that where the ink sprays when you run a cleaning cycle?
The other posters seemed to think the problem was the dye black (cli8bk) due to the fact that all the dye nozzles are next to each other and the pigment black (pgi5bk) nozzle is far away.
I previously said I had Meritline carts, but the pg5bk is a Canon that I had already, but all carts were...
It it were just the carts, I find it hard to believe the same thing would happen with 2 different brands before and after I removed and cleaned the print head. My carts are in this order: 8bk-5bk-8y-8m-8c if that matters.
I removed the cli8 black and yellow carts and I didn't see anything, no...
I rarely use my printer and it developed a yellow banding problem. I removed the printhead and cleaned with distilled water. When reinstalled the black grid was broken in a couple of places but has now been resolved. Now, the yellow problem has returned.
Pre-cleaning I was using Swiftink...
Well, my PGBK grid has now filled in and is printing correctly. Now I have a Yellow problem so I'm going to close this thread and post a new one about that.
Thanks,

I uploaded in B&W because when I scanned in color, the grid looked like it had color in it and some of the color bars didn't look right either. I've never used the scanner feature before so that is the best I could come up with. Is there a better way to get it on here?
The cartridges are...
Arrows point to the two spots missing crossbars. The actual printed nozzle check looks better than the rest of this uploaded image. I did a greyscale scan because trying color scan was showing color in the grid.
I had some bad yellow banding issues so I removed the print head and cleaned by sitting it in a pan on paper towel with just enough distilled water in the bottom of the pan to cover the paper towel. I also used an eye dropper to drop the water into the ink intakes. There was virtually no ink...
Hello,
Do the ink carts have to be removed in order to remove the Canon printhead? If so, what is the best way to store the carts while they are out? Are thy more likely to drip than when why were new?
Thanks,
