Ok - two sets of OEM carts for the ip4700, so there's a ready replacement when a cart empties out.
Let's say I'm ready to refill one cart, German method. I would seal the outlet tight as I can with the original orange cap, and a little tape over the refill hole (just for safety) for storage...
That's exactly right. A power-up does a heavy bit of cleaning and isa huge waste of ink ... and it doesn't matter if it's wasting the more-expensive-than-human-blood OEM ink or the quality-but-cheap refill inks : wasted ink is still wasted ink.
I'd think the best thing you could do for your new printer is remember to print a nozzle check page at least once a week, EVERY week. It might also be a good idea to do the same with one small, full-color photo and a half-page of dense text, just to be sure. You might be wasting a little...
Smile,
I see you've been here quite some time, so I'm sure you're familiar with the self-righteous firestorm that can get started when anyone dares to suggest using anything else but OEM carts in their refill tasks. Look ... you know new printers are CHEAP - in fact, buying an entirely new...
From the look of these new carts, I'd say the German method is dead in the water. Without the visuals to see where the needle goes or how full the tank gets during ink injection, the German method creates a big risk of overfill, sponge damage, misaligned needle insertion, etc.
Looks like the...
If there's one thing for sure that printer makers know about "razors", it's that you practically give away the razor ('printer') but you bankrupt your customers when they have to buy refill blades ('ink carts') !
From what I've read here on the forums :
(1) Advocates of the German method are absolutely religious about it - illogically fanatical, actually. They'll tell you it's easier, faster and cleaner. "Cleaner" is the truth; "faster" is debatable; "easier" ... no, not really. It's a fairly...

This eBay seller - bigdrop423, with store name BuyInkNow123 - appears to be selling an innovative mechanism for non-OEM replacements for...
Hey, here's a stupid question : let's say I manage to overwirite the firmware on my new iP4700 so it thinks it's a European model. I mioght even load up the European driver, just for consistency. Is this set-up going to now expect the European versions of the ink cartridges to be installed, or...
qwertydude: If the pictures at the Deal Extreme site are accurate, those carts are definitely not the ones I'm looking at at inkproducts.com. The ones I'm considering have pre-drilled refill holes over the ink tanks and color-coded silicone/rubber stoppers. The carts you link to don't appear...
Absolutely - you have no idea how helpful it is to see where I should I looking for the tip of the needle inside the ink chamber. I'm still a bit concerned about damaging the sponge material, though, especially since I can't actually see if the needle is damaging the sponge. I guess I'm going...
Thank you, Pharmacist - I'll study the post. And, in future, if you can't offer assistance without being rude about it, I'd rather you didn't offer help at all.
I've yet to read about a good and widely accepted flushing method here on the board - what I've read about mostly involves risking the integrity of the cart by adding new holes, in addition to any new holes created (or existing holes modified) to do the refill operations. Because of this, I...
A question with the German refill method and OEM CLI-221/PGI-220 carts : with the ink outlet facing up, we've got a transparent windown into the ink holing tank, but no way to see into the sponge area. How would I know if I've damaged the sponge when inserting the needle ? That is, let's say...
Can anyone comment/advise on these refillable CLI-221/PGI-220 carts from inkproducts.com ?

They appear to use silicone or rubber plugs that sit flush with the top surface of...
I agree on the eBay pricing. Is there any way to get these trays - espcially Tray G - from any other source, other than this annocjr guy on eBay ? I can't see how anyone can charge almost $30 US for that tray and sleep at night - it's obscene. Is there any way to order the tray from Canon...
:( Turning off the ink monitor does not prevent a printer from deep-cleaning the heads on power up - that will just hide the wasteful ink-draining effects of the cleaning. It would be burying your head in the sand and pretending something massively wasteful isn't actually happening.
 And...
Now, let's not get into that old argument about compatible carts and ink. This isn't my first rodeo in the inkjet world - I've used Canon and Epson printers for decades, and I know that a good, high-quality compatible cart and ink is an affordable alternative to the highway robbery the printer...
The "deep cleaning" that most printers do on power-up wastes huge amounts of ink. I'd rather pay a few pennies for the electricity by keeping the printer powered on at all times than spend the money to replace the ink wasted by these forced deep cleanings.
