Speaking only for the way I do things, I mainly print on gloss photo paper and don't post anything outside (or inside for that matter). Looks like dye based is best for me.

ghwellsjr, I see your points and will stand down about using dye ink in a printer made to use pigment ink. I guess it's my problem. I would like a dye based printer equal to the HP B9180, Epson R2880 or Canon's PRO9500.
Using Google I can't seem to find something as to the usefulness, cost, and just the what RIP is. Is it just software? I'm looking at the HP B9180 which offers RIP as an option, but I can't find on HP's website how one goes about ordering it. Can someone please enlighten me?
