I have a box full of ink cartridges for MG5450 and IP7250 printers. (C-551XL) Physically they fit my ip8750 and the red light comes on but then the driver reports wrong cartridge. The correct one is CLI-551XL Is there some code or fix I can apply so I can use these third party inks please?

I have the Canon ip8750 printer bought in the UK. It is excellent. It has six cartridges including a grey. I read somewhere that the grey was optional but can find any info? Is this true please? It won't run with the grey empty or not in place.
