Hey Chris,
I am also in the US and converted my Canon ip4200 printer to print CD/DVD's by using the instructions here:http://pixma.damnmachine.com/
The trouble shooting there may be of assistance. Also make sure that you never place the CD/DVD tray into the printer until you are told to do so...
The next step is to search this forum and you will find some very good methods for cleaning the inkjet nozzles which generally involves removing the cartridge holder and soaking the nozzles in a solution. If that does not work it means that you have to either purchase a new cartridge holder...
WhiteDog if your logic is correct then would not Lexmark be the first to go in that they seem to be at the bottom of all the big players at least as far as quality goes?
Here is another Forum to take a look at. It is not exclusive to HP but there is a lot of HP related material on it.

I have a Canon Pixma ip4200 and intend to refill the cartridges with Hobbicolor ink as they near empty. However, is it not risking damage to the print head while I have the cartridge out being drilled and refilled? On my older Canon printer I just cover the print head with an old cartridge while...
I just came across this article on a Tech site regarding the current status of things in the Ink Jet cartridge world.

I think many of you folks will find it interesting.
Monel,
Another thought before you start to mess with the printhead. Try placing fresh color cartridges in the printer and see if that works. Maybe those older cardridges have dried up somehow at the exit port.
Monel,
I would suggest you try one or some of the printhead cleaning techniques described in this site. I would expect if it is a clogged printhead issue you will notice at least some improvement. If not you might just have to just buy a new printhead which here in the US is around $53 or think...
Osage,
While reading your comments relative the ip3000 it brought about a related question in my mind. In the near future my supply of non OEM cartridges is going to run out. I have new inks and cartridges from Hobbicolors ready to go. I realize that when I make the transition that I should...
I have recently cleaned a few of my used Canon BCI-3 Series Cartridges employing Grandads method. I have already placed the flat top screws with o rings in them and all this has led me to a question. To employ the reverse flush method I pulled off all the tape that was on top of the cartridge so...
At the moment you can purchase a brand new Canon ip4200 with a new set of inks for 77.99 delivered in the USA. This will give you the second set of ink cartridges. The price will be about $12 over the cost of the inks alone and you will have a great second printer waiting in reserve.
I am wondering if anyone out there is successfully refilling their Canon ip4200 cartridges. I have this model and it is a very nice working printer. The major drawback being the anti refill chip on the cartridge. I am aware that the chip counts the amount of ink being used and if you refill the...
Neil,
I just received a five pack of G&G (Black) BCI-eBK from 4inkjets. They have a black label on them. Any problems with these that you know of?
Thanks
It would be helpful if you would perform a nozzle check and describe the results. I have the i550 too and it was not printing colors well. The nozzle check always printed out a distorted cyan color. This exact pattern never changed even after attempting numerous cleanout procedures. I replaced...
I am having issues with my Canon i550. When I print out a nozzle check all is well except for the cyan. The upper box printout area shows a pattern like a grouping of rifle sites with a half and then a full block and so on. The lower area in letter B shows a piano keyboard pattern with the...
