Welcome to Nifty-Stuff :D
My *mind-reading module says that you are using the Epson software to control the disk printing process.
See here :

If that doesn't help, junk the Epson PrintCD software and go with Acoustica or...
There ares several resetters available now that are working well...Sudhaus, RKS and others.
Don't know your location, but here is a good buy from a reliable seller if you're in the US ...
As manuchau says and also you might want to try resetting these carts.
I have done this and it works....requires a little monkeying around, though :)

I used method #1
I'm confused, the instructions you linked show injection through the top and your description sounds like you are using the drop-by-drop method on the bottom ??
Please clarify.
It's not so much the printer as it is the type of cartridge, and your cartridge type happens to be one of the preferred.
I would recommend using a chip resetter and Hobbicolors ink.
Everything you need need to know is here under the Search button.
Post back if you have any questions.
I didn't see anything current on this, so I'll ask.
A friend is setting up a home office (tight budget) and needs an AIO type printer. Fax capable is a must, color is not mandatory but would be nice if not too expensive.
In a laser, what are the favorites for effectiveness and economy ...
Welcome to the forum :)
I did a forum search for you and there is a ton of information on this subject :

Post page 29 if this doesn't answer your question.
I would vote no on WD-40 for printers. Possibly light lubrication, but for that I would be more likely to choose a light grease.
Personally, I wouldn't even entertain the thought of WD on a printhead.
It is, however, a proven gamefish attractant :D
1. Hobbiclors sells only bulk ink
2. Hobbicolors does not sell anything labeled "wc-6"
If I didn't refill myself, I would probably buy refills from :

They are a TrueStar dealer whose refilled carts have proven to be...
Yep, not the same "print engine" but the same physical chassis (architecture) as you can see in the Canon link.
I actually have an iP4000 stacked directly on top of an iP3000 on my desk.
Yeah, it's a PITA to change out ink in the iP3000 but it works for me.
I love that simple, elegant...
iP3000 replaced i550 and is more evolved.
Same chassis as your iP4000.

You want a CLI-8 printer as stated except that they are mostly sold out at this time.
If you're in the US this is one of the last great deals :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828102254
Free shipping at the moment.
It is a multi-function and can also be re-programmed to...
I would re-read the diagnostic portion of the Service Manual and notice that the machine has a waste ink counter.
You already know about the page counter. I believe that they could be one in the same.
I would try resetting the counter to the correct value.
Be advised that to reset the waste ink...
Glad you got it sorted.
There are several "solutions" available to clean feed rollers but worn rollers should be replaced.
Cleaning those will only buy a little time.
A surprising solution from the copy machine techs...
