thanks pharmacist - it doesnt sound like the OEM chip is resettable like the cli-8 cartridges w/ chip resetter? Do you have any links or info on where I can get new chips or a chip resetter?

This printer will be used for work so I can justify paying for it even if it cost 1,500USD and up. But one thing thats very important to me, probably everyone else on this forum, is being able to refill the ink. I cant be competitive in my pricing...

So i cleaned the printer head and yellow is working again. cyan still looks a little light but alot better. I got another ip4500 and I think Im going to use this printer as a cart refill only printer.
narmenia- I have the same ciss- my father bought it in Philippines and brought it back to the US.
Your nozzle check pictures are exactly like mine- I got them when i started messing with the ink tanks by raising them higher then the printer head. They did not go away until i took the cartridges...

You can disable the ink monitoring on the printer if you don't want to spend the extra money on a re setter and just keep an eye on the ink level manually.
Eventually you will have to do this anyways if you refill and don't reset the carts.
It seems that refilling might be a better option with my situation. I'll contact Hobbicolors- they seem local to me with the area code given.
jflan- have you had any problems with refilling - are you refilling OEM carts?
