My have two phone lines are both MJ. This makes me believe that the HP is the common denominator. I am considering resetting the printer but have thus far chickened out because I am using refilled cartridges and I know that I have set preferences to allow for this and don't remember what I did...
Thanks The Hat,
I looked at one app but decided not to at this point.
Mac computers can also send a fax but there has to be a fax capable machine hooked up to it.
My machine gives an error code of 388 which basically says there is too much noise on the line. It is a MagicJack connection but...
HP Inkjet OfficeJet Pro
I have been trying to send a fax for a couple of days with no luck. It has worked many times in the past with no problems. I am using a MagicJack but that has not been a problem in the past and since I have two of their devices I tried on both. I called MJ and they reset...
Thanks again guymark!
What you suggested from the article worked.
However, I think I may have uncovered the problem. I notice blue ink seems to be everywhere so I think I just have a dud ink tank.
So I have removed the dud, filled the empty one, flushed the printhead transport and will let it...
Thanks again guymark,
Now I only get the error message as I started off with. I can see no back button to try the reset. There is only the on off button and the error message and a question mark.
This documentary is an interesting story that gives the history of planned obsolescence woven in with the story of a guy who discovered a chip that ensured his printer died at a certain point.
Enjoy!

Guymark,
Thanks for taking the time to help.
I may have allowed the colours to go dry as the cartridges were quite light when I took them out, but I did put refilled cartridges back in.
I have refilled the cartridges a number of times so it is possible that the cartridges are "done".
There...
I went to print and got a message that the cyan ink was low so I put in a refilled cartridge. Then I got a message the Majenta was low so I put in a refilled cartridge.
Then I got the message "There is a problem with printer or ink system. Turn printer off then on. If problem persists contact...
LW1ECP,
My HP 8600 has ink tanks for each colour and a separate printhead. The printhead is easy to remove and clean.
Thanks to the other posters also, I appreciate the info.
I had a Canon prior to the 8600 and I was much happier with it because it was easier to refill. My next will be a Canon.
I also bought an HP laptop. My first and my last. The HD died in well less than a year and I lost Windows 8 in the transition because I am not a Windoze person so did not know...

I used one of those kits for continuous ink supply and had that problem along with other issues and abandoned that system
Could also be a dirty printhead. There are youtubes on cleaning the printhead. I recommend finding a few of these and watching them first. Not all opinions are valid as some...
I have a pro 8600. Not sure if we are talking about the same printer or system, however I removed the part of the printer that holds the print heads and put in in warm running water (sink) and then soaked it till it ran clean and put it back on the computer...
