I had same problem with my IP4600 and IP4850.
These newer printers have a flimsy bent metal sheet as guide for carriage and printhead goes out of alignment really fast, and is most visible for PGBK on plain paper at normal/draft quality.
In time (and hundreds of sheets printed) it reaches a kind...
It works with a screw (for wood). Used myself for one cartridge.
I wish to suggest another material for flat sealing the refill hole, it was presented by LeeE here http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=46890#p46890.
Tested myself and I had no problem both for short and medium term...
As I cannot find in my area propylene-glycol, glycerin and ammonia, I am limited to a mixture of 75% distilled water and 25% isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol), used warm, at about 50 C (122 F) to 60 C (140 F).

1. I was lost in translation. Now I changed it to vessel.
2. For negative pressure on PGBK I cut the tip of a thin (2-3 ml) syringe that fits over mesh screen. As the cut was not straight enough to ensure a good seal on rubber I melted a bit the edge then pressed it on a flat surface...

Yes I am. If you wish to talk in Romanian just send me a PM.
Regarding your problem, if you are going to print only in black I strongly recommend to follow Mowerman90 and stratman advice.
Only if you need to print with colors go for IP3600.
In this case, this printer has separate...
If you need to print in color then search for a Canon Pixma IP3600. This model is still available in some places and is easy to refill. However, is not as cheap as HP Deskjet 1000.
You will need also quality ink and a resetter. Let us know your location to point you toward forum members that...
I would like to share my experience at unclogging Canon printheads as a succession of actions to be taken.
If the nozzle check shows missing nozzles or whole bands, after ruling out cartridge, electrical or purge unit problems:
1. execute cleaning (2) an deep cleaning (1) from printer software...
To be able to see something inside the cartridge I removed the label on top of spongeless side, with care not to unseal the air maze.
This way, placing the cartridge against a source of light I can see if there is still ink in reservoir, or if it there are air/bubbles on top of reservoir.
I...
If you already have/know the labels, see for what kind of printers are designed, inkjet (dye or pigment) or laser.
Considering your (lack of) knowledge about printers I would recommend a laser printer, if you can afford it (including future toner cartridges).
If no, follow The Hat advice. Look...
Well, speed killed my late IP5000 http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6954
I think there is some truth in turbguy initial post, as spreading an action over a longer duration would generate less wear.
However I assume most of newer printers "speed" comes from more nozzles in...
I fully agree. Now I have printers with all types of cartridges from BCI-6 to 525/526 and refill seems equally easy for all models.
Regarding refilling compatibles, is like gambling: one may be lucky but in most cases it looses. As an example I bought my IP4600 with mixed cartridges, OEMs and...
From a useful list with Canon error codes:

Drip few drops on a sink then pour water over.
Pigment ink should disperse as a pure gray mist and it should leave a gray spot on sink, removable only by scrubbing.
Dye ink should disperse as a colored liquid, deep blue or deep indigo, depending on ink. It should dissolve completely...
For best results search for "pharmacist recipe" here on forum.
Myself I got decent result with a mixture of 75% distilled water and 25% Isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) and I suppose you can replace isopropyl alcohol with ethanol.
