As it seems to be free from any physical restraints of movement, I assume that means the problem IS electrical? And pretty much rings the death knell? I suppose practically anything can be fixed if one is willing to shell out more dollars, and I am limited in that direction.
I went back to check the purge unit gears and find I can turn them in one direction only. The other way moves an assembly of some sort that stops at the parking pads and that's as far as the gears will move in that direction.
The carriage seemed as if it were binding on something, it cleared the casing just enough for me to load the printhead but that was as far as it would go. When it powered on it would sort of hiccup and try to move the carriage, then turn off. It did that 2 or 3 times, then died completely...
I recently managed to acquire a power adapter for my 4500. Previously, the printer had started to work, then shut down. My friend checked the circuit board in the power adapter and said it was not getting voltage where it needed it. I just installed the new(used)power adapter. To my great...
Printer Model: i860

I found a video on how to dismantle and I've got it apart. I don't know that I can get it back together, but I'll worry about that later. For now at least I've got the head and carts as sealed as I can.
My 4500's power adapter decided to quit working and it looks like a while, if at all, that I can get another. In the meantime I'd like to get at the head and carts to seal them up and try to keep them from becoming unusable, but I don't have a clue where to start.
Yay, I have black! :weee Thanks to you wonderful people for helping a total know-nothing. I have another i860 that also won't print black and now I'm tempted to get it out of storage and have a look at it.
I'm trying to get it all back together but I'm having trouble with the cover not wanting to snap down in front. Something appears to be holding it up, maybe up in the middle, I can't figure out what it is. It may be hitting something that causes it to either fit in the front or in the back...
Thanks turbguy,
I've just finished washing the waste pads and they are out in the Arizona sun drying out. If they dry out as fast as my skin did, it won't be long. ;-)
I'm pretty sure the tube is clear and securely fastened. I've got stuff cleaned up a bit and now I just hope I've haven't...
Deepest appreciation to turbguy for sending me a picture with directions for screw locations. I've got it apart and find that the tube which I believe to be for the black ink is totally disconnected and there is black ink all over everything. The bottom layer of foam looks to be saturated and...
