I received my brand new PIXMA IP5000 yesterday, so I'm watching this thread very closely. I've read so many good things about Formulabs/alotofthings inks for my i9900, and I'm hoping to find a printer profile for my new printer that pairs those inks with Ilford Classic Pearl photo paper. I'm...
Has anyone tried Lumijet Image Shield? I've read that it is an excellent UV shield against print fading. A 14 oz. can sells for about $18. I've never really given much thought to fading, but it makes sense, what with the depleting ozone layer.
Rob, with my luck, I'd choose the wrong Brain.
My new PIXMA IP5000 is set to arrive Monday, so any mileage I can get out of the i950 is all gravy. The best part is that I have nothing to lose. I can take chances with codes, taking meticulous notes... And who knows, maybe generations from now...
I print some things that are simply not worthy of the i9900 (if you know what I mean) - web pages, engineering stuff, rough drafts, etc. My i9900 is used for the serious photography, posters for my book, portraits, etc. - where quality is critical. The i9900 will only see Canon media and ink; no...
You've given me all the incentive I need to hold onto my trashed i950, and take to the "laboratory" to conduct the experiments that may bring it back to life... but first I'll check the forecast for lightning:-)
Thanks.
I had tried everything to get the Magenta cartridge spot to work (new cartidge, new printhead, etc) I'm now convinced that it may be an electronics problem. At any rate, I've elected to go with the ip5000. It takes the same cartridges, and Buy.com is currently offering an instant $30 rebate...
I'd say jump on it. The reviews I've read are positive, and User Reviews are very good. The only knock is that the MP750 is an older model that lacks Fax and "photo features" capability. I've always been reluctant to do the scan-copy-print thing, but that comes from an old school phobia about...
Ken,
You may be interested in the June 28th issue of PC Magazine. There you'll find a head-to-head review of seven top photo printers including canon's i9900 and Pixma iP8500, which are favored, Pixma iP5000, HP Photosmart 8150,8450 and 8750; and Epson's R1800. Though there is not enough...
The National Technology Recycling Project (www.ntrp.org) lists computer recyclers across the country by state. My guess is that you may find inkjet printer parts at a recycler.
United Computer Exchange (www.uce.com) sells printers and parts in bulk. They may be a source of further info.

Thanks, panos. I'll try your q-tip suggestion. I don't think I'll opt to get it repaired, given its age and cost. The real reason I ask is that I also own an i9900, and this experience has me concerned about that model, which was considerably more expensive than the i950. Thanks again.
I'd advise you to get out the ole magnifying glass and check the small print. You may find that the warranty won't cover many things that the warranter considers results of "normal usage," and some won't cover lightning damage, etc. I'd suggest investing in a good surge protector instead.
Hi everyone, great forum. I've had my i950 for about two years. One day the Magenta ink no longer printed. After trying various printhead cleaning methods, I ordered a new printhead and replaced the cartridge. Same problem. Has anyone ever considered the possibility that a nozzle that appears to...
