Going to try this method, anything that cuts down flushing the printhead to me is great.
I use the tubing method with great success, in fact I use it about 3 times a week. (Don't ask why but I keep getting clogs on specific printers with specific inks) It gets to the point where flushing with...
I looked into getting a pressure sprayer to purge similar in this manner and balked at the price:

However, a month or so ago I saw Dollarama carrying them for $2
I tested it and it seems okay, but I still need to get the tubing to test this on a...
I've had some really bad clogs that even tubing hooked up the printhead would not clear. I ended up dismantling the printhead and blowing the holes on the ceramic clear of any obstructions.
[A flashlight is handy for this as you can shine the light through one side to see where your clogs are]...
Trying to reset an ip4600, not having any luck getting this thing to be detected in service mode.
XP comes up with found new hardware canon device, but the printer is not showing up in the selectable usb ports in the rest software.
There is also no driver available for "canon device"
Anybody...
Please forgive my photo skills :)
Usually they open the same on the ip4x line, which is very similar to this, this looks like it has some ip4300 in it's blood :)
I'm not expecting this to have the dummy panels unlike the newer generation printers.
I will attest to never opening this model, but...
Having had this happen to me, with a dye based canon ink, I would say get the water as hot as possible, I use a little green machine and a steam buggy to clean with pretty good results.
I have the ip4600 and the ip4700, on the problem printers I thinned the ink using alcohol, so far my clogs have stopped, i do get the odd one, but the tube method works really well for me to clean the head.
Funny you mention this, using same ink in ip4300/ip4700 (YMMV though).
Just wanted to chime in that IMHO the ip4700 is outperforming my ip4300 in speed. I also find the feed tray for cd printing to be way better.
The smaller cartridges aren't a bother to me as I refill once a week.
Should make mention that the IP 4700 are yanked off the shelves. I knew in my heart they were going when staples went OOS on these.
I think I will just keep my existing printers going. I have no interest in playing the arms race with Canon anymore.
Not only does the 4820 have new cartridges...
Sounds like the chip is fried, as a last resort, clean the contacts inside the printer where the chip sits. Make sure all the contacts inside the printer are fine.
Easy answer is to contact a cartridge refilling place and get an old empty and refill it, or find another chip online.
Here's where I'm at:
The 2 problem printers, I have filled with non IS magenta ink, and ran them to empty last week with absolutely no clogs, using the previously problematic cartridges.
While I realize there are other steps to nail down a 100% answer, I'm happy with the fact that they are...
Yes, what would happen is the printer would stop and I would use an alternate cartridge that had been purged and refill with the IS ink. It would print for awhile and then eventually magenta would stop.
Purge another cartridge (would rotate 2 or 3) fill and continue.
Which explains why it...
That's the funny thing, these things are clogging after a purge, I fill weekly and 2 cartridges never make it through their ink before I have to purge them again.
Just for a test I used a different magenta ink I had kicking about, and so far, where I would usually have problems, there have been...
Seems all of my problems with magenta have been caused by Image Specialists magenta ink (all their other inks are fine).
Because I have a few liters of it, was wondering if I can somehow "thin" this ink out. Do you think adding a bit of isopropyl alcohol will help thin it out?
I will say that...
Is it bidirectional printing? How long to print a disc?
I just finished looking at youtube videos of this printer, very impressive. Does the artisan 50 print as fast as this one (or close to it?)
I'm remembering the r200 with trepidation, however I miss the ease at which a cis hooked up to it...
Just a follow up, I've had two more clogs with this ink, (it may be the age of the ink, i've had it for a year or so)
A combination of purging and clearing the printhead with tubing and windex has seemed to keep me going.
The magenrta clogging has occurred on another printer, so i am chalking...
Funny thing, I went and did a cleaning + a print and red came back, nice and streaky. It looked exactly like a cartridge that needed purging.
I decided to just go ahead and try a new cartridge along with a new yellow. Guess what? It prints perfectly, going to try using it today to see if my...
