My MP500 started to act up yesterday. See above nozzle check pattern. Looks electrical in nature. Darn. This PGI-5 CLI-8 workhorse has been with me. For the heck of it, soaking with the usual and all other quick fixes yielded the exact same nozzle check as before.

I brought out my MG8120 from storage and set it up. A much larger printer in comparison.
I had decided to take the MP500 to the recycler but the weather prompted to delay that.

So I decided to use it out to the max as it was still good for Black documents. Approx 300 pages later the lower nozzle check came out!

Go figure. I know..I was lucky and there is something electronically odd going on but nonetheless, I will repack the 8120. The MP500 goes back into service.

Maybe there is an intermittent contact between a contact pad and contact spring on the print head/in the print head carriage?

Maybe cleaning the contact pads and springs with a rag moistened with an electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol might prevent the error returning?

Never look a gift horse in the mouth. :ya

PeterBJ's post may be the explanation and his suggestion an easy and non-destructive thing to do. If this is a logic board assay or print head issue - not related to a clog - then it probably will return.

I reckon it will also return before too long, so I wouldn’t pack away the 8120 at all sorry..
