Hi
In trying to revive an epson 7600 that’s sat for some time, among other things, we’ve replaced the dampers and most recently the print head with a refurbished one. A problem before replacing the print head was that there were horizontal bands of black in the yellow that was suggested was caused by a poorly seated or bad damper. We replaced the dampers and the issue continued so we decided to replace the print head. After replacing it, and obviously reseating the dampers again, the problem continues. Does anyone have a suggestion what might be causing this? Many thanks in advance.

that's an unusual case indeed, the yellow and black inks are not adjacent to each other in the printhead carriage, I just would try to find the leak how the black - or gray ink gets to the yellow ink channel; you may disconnect the yellow ink tube at the damper, or taking out the yellow damper to see if the black/gray still prints. And the next question would be whether it's the black or the light black ink printing there. And does the effect disappear if you disconnect the black and/or the gray ink tube as well and taking out these dampers with yellow kept connected . I don't know if and which other ways exist to find the source of the problem and to fix it.

Thank you. We'll give that a try. We're also fighting air bubbles. Every time we remove or disconnect a damper, we get them. Your idea is a good one so we'll see what happens. Many thanks.

The ink is probably running back in the tube when you disconnect it from the damper - you need to close the tube immediately - with a plug or a small clamp or similar. And you can use a syringe with a small adapter to pull ink up again through the tube so that there are no bubbles anymore.

You can find similar adapters here - conical needles and other

We've decided to replace all the dampers again. This is our last hurrah.... We were thinking, about the air bubbles, to suck it out of the dampers prior to placing them on the print head. What do you think?

Some air should remain in the damper - about half of the volume the ink can take

That's good advice. We didn't know. Again, thank you.
