Linux CUPS printing with Canon iP4500 - green flashing light

I managed to resolve this issue. It was due to missing driver files for the CUPS system. Once these were installed the printer works as expected and does not randomly sleep or stop working.

Linux CUPS printing with Canon iP4500 - green flashing light

Where is the control panel for the iP4500? I've been trawling the Internet for answers and it appears to be a common issue :barnie with the Linux kernel and/or the CUPS system just switching off by itself! This seems to happen to other makes too and not isolated to Canon. For the time being it...

Linux CUPS printing with Canon iP4500 - green flashing light

Hi I recently connected my iP4500 to a Raspberry pi and set up a simple print server using CUPS+Guttenprint. Although the iP4500 is supported and I do get prints, I find that after a while either the printer goes to sleep, USB port goes to sleep or the something else and this stops the printer...

The ink absorber is almost full - iP4500

Hi I managed to get things back working again although I heard some screeching noises when the print head carriage got stuck. I think it was the thin carriage belt slipping. I turned off and gently nudged the print head carriage in the middle and powered on again. This time things sounded...

The ink absorber is almost full - iP4500

Hi I have managed to dismantle the printer mainly using this YouTube link: https://bit.ly/2FQcQNI I followed the video carefully and when it was time to move the purge tray out of the way by turning the cog wheel (2:03 in the video), so that the cartridge holder can be moved, I noticed the cog...

The ink absorber is almost full - iP4500

Thanks for the info guys. I will give the reset a try first and will attempt the dismantle procedure at some point. With regards to the sponges, what's the recommended way to wash them or do you know if there are suppliers who still sell them? Thanks.

The ink absorber is almost full - iP4500

Hi I recently got the following message pop up when I tried to print using my iP4500: "The ink absorber is almost full. Press the printer's RESUME button to continue printing. Contact the service center." Is there a way to reset this or do I have to dismantle the printer, clean the sponge...

Possible print head clog with IP4500

Yes the solution does get drained away but I am not sure if there should be a little solution left on the pad. I will keep an eye on it. Thanks.

Possible print head clog with IP4500

*UPDATE 4* - SUCCESS! :) Just to give an update on the progress and I have finally unclogged the printer head and all seems to be working fine now. Looking back it was not only a head clog but also a partially clogged purge unit that caused all the problems. After trying to unclog the head for...

Thanks for the links. These will come in handy at some point. Do you know if there is a full service manual for IP4500?

Possible print head clog with IP4500

I plan to start using OctoInkjet for their inks once my current supply of Hobbicolors runs out. I heard good things about OctoInkjet and the fact they are based in UK means I don't have to pay too much in shipping costs :) Thanks for the tips.

Possible print head clog with IP4500

ghwellsjr Thanks for the info. It looks like my problem is similar to this one. If you look down at post #6, the print pattern is the same as mine ie a large section in the middle is missing. I filled the purge tray with solution and did a few cleaning cycles, the solution is still there. So...

Possible print head clog with IP4500

*UPDATE 3* I have not much progress since the last post. I did another nozzle test print today and it is the same as last time ie the central section of the grid pattern is missing. I have followed my previous steps as before but used a stronger solution by added extra drops of isopropyl...

Possible print head clog with IP4500

*UPDATE 2* Just a quick update on the progress of unclogging the PIGMENT black. Here are some scans: Scan #1 After the first Cleaning cycle Scan #2 After the 12th Cleaning cycle (this included 3 deep cleans along the way) Progress is slow, but there are improvements. The grid pattern got...

Possible print head clog with IP4500

Thanks for the link. Its quite interesting. I have already tried doing deep cleans and used up one PIGMENT cart already and it did not improve matters. I have now refilled the pigment cart with DYE ink but plan to go though my own steps again. I will not soak the head this time, but just use a...
