I gather from our conversation that you have an XP600 ??

Is there any chance that you could please check out the paper feed sequence on your XP600 for me?? Using the following Print Property settings 1) set at text & image, 2) Print Properties set at Photo (this is when I get my paper jam. You will have to cheat the cover switch to see this under the cover. Sorry no doubt you already know this.

The paper feed sequence on my unit is as follows 1) Print setting Text & Image paper feed 65mm start printing no problem at all. 2) Settings changed to Photo paper feed 25mm then retract and paper jam.

Please let me know if your XP600 has the same feed pattern. I feel this might help eliminate the duplex unit.
I do but it's in the workshop so I'll have to wait until I'm there next to give it a shot...

Thank's for that update on the paper feed situation, it will be interesting to see what your result is.

I'm not sure if the findings from the XP600 Adj program would be of use?? (the adjustments that work and I can input readings and the ones that don't and give paper jam problems) I have quite a few notes on these, but if you have not used the XP600 program yet they might not be of any use. I just thought this was worth a mention, FIRST let us see what your paper feed results show.
IF YOU NEED ANY MORE PHOTOS PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL DO MY BEST.

Thank's
Russ

I've been in the workshop for a couple of hours today so figured I'd give it a shot with your paper feed test.

I can't reproduce your problem but pulling back from my days dealing with HP L7580 - L7780 MFP's I remember the back of the paper feed mechanism was a regular culprit for paper issues and looking down at the back of the XP-600 there's a lot of similarities down there.

The duplexer unit you've shown doesn't appear to be any different from mine (although I haven't disassembled mine) so I think we can rule that out for the moment but if you could leave it out and take some shots of the rear of the printer from on high looking down into the back of the paper feed mechanism towards the tray at the bottom.

Also turn the printer over and take shots of the underside... take a shot as you remove each of the paper trays, particularly towards the back end.

Something tells me the problem lies back there somewhere.

No worries Russ... I'll not be in until Monday as Sunday is family day (and I like life ;)).

We'll figure it though...

Thank's for the mail, nice to hear that you enjoy your family day and why not we all need that.

Any way back to the PJ. The photos will have to be in 2 x hits again sorry but it's the only way.
A little more info, I tried printing some A5 and A6 paper, A5 same old problem as soon as setting changed to Photo, also tried A6 Printer did not want to know, this was the same in both cassettes.
One other observation was, with an A4 sheet in Cassette 2 Print settings at photo, the paper jam error shows B4 the paper is retracted. I think may be I missed this B4.
Any way I will send the first 10 photos.

Russ

Next set of photos x 9 off.

To me all looks good mechanically, no parts fallen off or broken all springs etc in tact. I have a feeling that there is a setting or a sensor not doing it's job or may be one of the PC boards has a fault.
I will wait to see what your thoughts are on the phots but I think they will be the same as mine
The next stage for me is to strip the 600 down to see if there is anything a miss. I will wait to see what you say.
Russ

Hi Russ,

Like you I can't see anything out of place at all... Looks like you're going to be having a real "fun" time with this one but for all that it'll be a useful nugget of experience to have if you can figure it out. Sorry I've not been able to find the fix for this...

Hi Russ,

I think you are right on this one been trying to sort it for a long while now.
As a point of interest last night I set the 600 up in windows 8 and the results were just the same.

Another thought I had was, if you are familiar with the various Epson ADJ programs, was to send you some pics and info to see if you can spot anything in the settings and my finding of what works and what will doesn't work.(in the ADJ P)

I enclose 2x pics, an Overview of the settings available in the 600 ADJ program, if you think the above would be a worth while please let me know, just before I pull the printer apart
A point I would make though is XP600 program is a little different to the other Epson ADJs re the setting that are available.

The one thing I can't get my head around is the fact that I alter one setting in the print preferences and the paper feed changes.
As a point I assume that the paper feed on your 600 is the same on all settings???

Please let me know your thoughts re the adj, if you think it's dead in the water no problem.

Russ.
