Instead of cleaning I think you should do a lot of printing of purge files. 2 prints a day in 3 weeks. Rule No 1 = patience, Rule No 2 = patience, Rule No 3 = patience and then there is a fourth rule = patience.

Thanks all for the support, I think the printer is working quite nicely on matte paper (see picture attached).

I ordered canon cartridges for 104 euros let see how good is the printer with OEM ink.

@marco565, are you doing any hiking today, it's minus 26 C with a 20 kmh wind here in Calgary. Brrr....
I live in Germany it's only 2C degrees today so it's fine ^^

Only 250 pages, my God!
Yea crazy when I saw that! Even my ET8550 bought 1 month ago has printed more pages ^^

Yes it’s a lovely picture, but it would be even better if you had the origination around the right way, it does my neck in try to see it..

P.S. You’re not going to be disappointed with this great printer on OEM inks, but let the printer handle the colour till you get the hang of it.. ;)

Just edit my post, I don't want to be responsible for any neck pain :)

Yes hopefully OEM inks will make this printer awesome. I know I might get myself killed, but currently, in terms of image quality, the Epson ET8550 with custom profiles is better (for my taste) than the pro 10 with Octoinks and custom profile on both mate and specially glossy media.

How/what do you compare - the gamut size - or the look of the gloss - or the black level or ???
Please keep in mind that the ET8550 runs on dye inks, and the Pro-10 on pigment inks.

For now, I have compared pictures visually of which ones I like most on matte paper (Octoink does not work on glossy apparently) with custom profiles made with a spyder print (patch by patch click). As far I only tried canon pro mate paper PM101. I find the picture more contrasty, less flat on the ET8550.

Bear in mind I am not running OEM inks on the canon pro 10.

Your ET8550 will shoot the Pro 10 down on glossy paper, but on everything else the Pro 10 should win hands down.. Dye versus Pigment, Dye wins on glossy paper no question, long term, Dye fades much faster..
P.S. My neck is getting better.. Is that a scene from Harry Potter..

Custom profiles made with Spyderprint ... Caveat emptor. !
If you want my opinion @marco565, forget about Datacolor products, they're no good.

Octoink compatibles for Pro10 are quite good but not up to OEM. specially red, magenta, chroma optimizer and Photo black (which has poor adhesion on glossy or luster media ).
Octoink sells also premium red and photo black inks for the Pro10. Those are in fact Canon OEM, much more expensive of course than their regular inks.

I only can confirm that profiles made with Spyderprint can be totally wrong, and the user does not have any tools to verify a profile for consistency.

I have tested various pigment inks - as well Inks for Canon printers, you find wide performance variations between 3rd party pigment inks, and as well for the Chroma optimizer, I found the Inktec version completely ineffective , another one adding a color cast to the print, or you would need another 2nd chroma optimizer print over for best effecitvity. And you find visible differences as well for the black level of 3rd party inks. I would recommend to get larger cartridges of Canon OEM inks and use them for refill your Pro1/Pro 10 cartidges.

I've been 'chasing' larger PFI-xxx Canon carts on ebay and other places. I have now OEM ink for all colors except gray. but I continue to use my current Octoinks until I run out of them.
Of course, every time I replace one Octoink with one OEM I have to make another custom profile, In fact, none of these inks match exactly the Pro-10 colors, so the gamut of the profiles keep changing all the time, depending if the PFI ink is stronger than the equivalent PGI-72 or not.
