I’ve never had a printer that was not double insulated and only had two wires, I have come across a few old laser printers that used a separate earth, (3 pin) but they were all dinosaurs and used power like it was free..

You can do it this way or that way - with or without protective ground connection - you just have to do the internal design - creepage/clearance and connections - e.g. accessible metal parts to ground - correctly, but sometimes the ground connection is just used for the EMI filter to get lower emissions values, and the rest is double insulated on the secondary side. But that's all going beyond the original subject of this thread, there are lots of design variations possible.

Brother printers - they haven't been subject of any threads since quite a while - no complaints - no questions - are they that good - almost perfect ?

All my Epson printers incl. the ET-8550 run on 2 pole connections

....... At least one thing I know is, that in the Tschechoslowakin Replubik they have a different wall plug than we have in Germany. The ground lead is different and you need another cable.
Cheers,
Maximilian
You don't need a different cable anymore, unless you have a very old F type cable without a hole for clearing the earth male pin of E plugs (used in the Czech Republic, France, Belgium and a few other countries).
See the links below.

All the Canon printers that I've owned were fitted with a C type cable, also named commonly 'Philips'. Those are 2 pins only and rated 2,5A, more than enough for inkjets. Instead, my laser Brother has the sturdier F type with earth wire and it's rated 16Amp.

We used the F type plug till we joined the EEC, then we switched to the dreaded UK plug, which I also taught were dangerous, but don’t ask me why the change..

Anyway getting back to my original question:- why don’t Canon make an A3 Megatank printer, because I don’t see how it could compete with the Pro 200, there’re both in different leagues for quality and the Megatank could be keep to just 4 colours plus pigment black..

Ideal for Schools and the like, it could even be a big seller for Canon, just think of all the ink it would use..

How about the IX6850 or IP8750 as A3 printers - how would they compete ?

@The Hat, we can only guess about Canon's product policy. You need to call their 'very efficient' customer service and ask them directly. ;)

Canon cartridge printers are not in the same ball park as MegaTanks are, the holy grail always was to install a proper CISS yourself and they worked great for high volume printing, schools would turn out hundreds of sheets if they had a MegaTank printer..
But the Megatank business model moved the profit from ink sales to printer sales?
But only on the starting price, the ink sales would follow in time..
When running a printer with CISS you don’t have use up ink quickly.. It’s not cheaper just more convenient..

15 years ago I sought information on banner printing from Canon and was given the brush off, and they closed down a Canon dealership for selling me a i9950 cheaply, too cheap in turn out, plus the printer was not to be sold in Ireland. No idea why…

I ended up buying my 9500 and Pro 1 from Park Cameras in the UK.. Canon help Huh…
I’ve never had anything but grief when dealing with Canon direct.. Muppets the lot of them..
