Got my new inks from Canon today, nice big bottles, just hope they work as good as the original ink at the price of, €115, it's €99 for a set of new carts..

The BK black bottle is a lot bigger than the colours so I should have ink for a very long time, and now all I got to do is purge the four carts and install the new inks without making a big mess of it..

Well I did my ink change with the OEM carts, and boy did it get messy, getting the old ink out first wasn’t too bad and rinsing the carts a few times with pharmacist solution but that wasn’t a problem either, But…

When it came to refilling with ink then I started to have issues, I didn’t get my figures right and instead of using 23 ml of magenta ink, I tried to use 70 ml., the total weight of cart when full is 70 gm, and I got a great big blow out when I lifted the syringe out of the outlet hole.

But after that I still kept on forgetting to pull the plunger backwards to release some of the pressure in the ink tank, resulting ink pouring out the outlet hole and down the side of the tank and covering my hands in ink.

I had forgotten how to fill a simple OEM cartridge and sure learned the hard way, but saying that the compatible carts were so much easier to fill and that’s what I was use too.

It’s amazing how quickly laziness creeps in, and now I’ll have no problem been adopted by @ink Stain Fingers, because you should see the state of my Feckin hands..

P.S. for those that wish to use the new CLI-56 bottles I noticed the tops under the caps are all coded to stop you from filling the wrong ink tanks, I had no issues, thankfully I used a long needle..

115 euros for the set of 4 bottles ?. Not bad at all, by OEM usual pricing.
.. but think that for that amount you could have purchased a whole nautical mile of filament.:D

It will be interesting to see how the old ink that you used until now interacts with GI-56 OEM..

I reckon my change of heart has come too late to save the print head, the compatible inks weren’t working that well and now it looks like I got some damage in quite few black nozzles, I just taught it was because I wasn’t using the printer enough and the printer didn’t get a good workout.

But looking back at previous nozzle printouts it’s clear that the missing nozzles were all in the same position no matter what I did, and yes I did try external cleaning but the problem didn’t go away.

Now do I get a new head or just leave it because the printer is not doing any work that needs good quality output, I’ll give it a bit more time on OEM ink and see what happens, it may clear up or it may not, but I don’t reckon its worth putting a new head in just for a few missing nozzles..

Here is a scan from the Maxify itself (First time to scan a photo) and the current nozzle check..

This is the photo I took eariler of the new bottles and then printed out on the maxify after the new inks were installed. No sign of the poor nozzles.. !

Here’s what I wrote earlier..

I reckon Canon were just putting the wind up the user by saying, their inks might not mix with 3rd party ink, but one rinse of pharmacist solution was enough to make them compatible and I’ve had no issues with the colours.

P.S. I originally taught this issue I was having with the black was caused by some air trapped inside valve in the cart itself.. See what I know…

Even if you rinsed well the carts to get rid of the compatible ink, inside the printhead there're remanents of that ink. Not just a tiny fraction of milliliter as with Pixmas printheads but more than 2 ml contained in the flow control chamber of Maxifys printehads. That amount won't be sucked by a single priming cycle when you change the cartridge. GI-56 OEM and compatible ink will mix somehow.
If you haven't noticed ill effects till now (apart those already non firing black nozzles) I reckon everything will be OK.

Nope, everything is back the way it was, The compatible HP inks I was using didn’t cause any issues, but I still suspected it might be clogging a bit due to under use, so I’ll have to wait and see how the OEM inks preform, will it be better and not need head cleans to get a good printout. (Black was mainly the culprit)

As usual the black cart leaked a splurge of ink onto the leading edge of each sheet coming out of the printer, so I ran two lots of test prints 10 each and it eventually stopped, I’d also say that any remaining old ink that was left in the print head is now well gone.

Over the next 10-20 days will tell if this ink will cure the issue of small clogs when the printed is left ideal and not in use..

Thanks @The Hat for being the guinea pig.

I've been able to clean C and Y by using Canon wide format inks, although C has some smearing in the dot pattern.
The cart is almost empty, I will flush it and refill with GI-56-C, and order Y.
I have no problems with (octopus.de) M and BK, and still have a big cart of Canon MBK I plan to use since I only print on office paper.

3 missing nozzles on the PGBK nozzle check and you get that pattern of missing text? There are also some swathes of lighter blacks shades you can easily see in the small image before you click it to magnify.

Still, the missing text seems mismatched to just 3 missing nozzles.

I flushed a Cyan cart already.
After sucking out remaining ink I connected a tube to the vent port on top of the ink outlet (the ink tube of an empty ballpoint fits) and pushed gently pharmacist solution through. It flows out of the ink outlet.

I filled the cart with 20ml pharmacist solution.
Don't know if it is a good idea to place it in the printer first to flush the printhead before refilling with the GI-56 ink.

I reckon your good to go as is, because you can print some test sheets to use up the remaining ink in the print head..

That’s been like that a long time and doesn’t effect any text documents I’ve printed plus this colour photo seems not to be effected also..
