Subject: Canon printer rebates

Hi,

Why can't we have these rebate schemes and discounted Pro10 printer prices in the UK?

Can't you create a 51st state status for the UK?:)

Regards

Too bad that Canon is that restrictive.
Everyone is under the misconception that these sales and discounts have something to do with Canon Inc., but they don’t, because it’s not Canon Inc. that’s offering these incredible reductions at all, it’s Canon distributors US. A private company..

They have a captive audience and they are manipulating their market in a way that has boosted their sales, and guess what its working out beautiful for them and the profits in inks sales are going through the roof.

Only a fraction of buyers bothers to refill with 3rd party inks, the rest use OEM carts and are happy to part with their cash for the best inks available, but what if it was the other way around and the printers were $3000 plus, and the inks were $3 a cart, Canon US would soon go out of business... :(

At Adorama! Click for lower price and it is $309-250 rebate is $59.00 with free paper thrown into the deal.

I am new to this, and just checked this link. The price as of today, 11/2 says $379. I tried promo codes 354215960335328341 and PPEBH17 and neither seems to work. The final price would now be $129?

Now this whole thing makes sense. Not sense as in I agree, but sense why it's only in the US, by a company other than Canon. Thanks for explaining that.

For another opinion, fire up your browser's search engine and enter "Who owns Canon-Canada?". I think I'll go hide now.
Canon Canada is a subsidiary of Canon USA. Both the US and the Canadian have their own management teams. For instance, Joe Adachi is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Canon U.S.A., Inc. and Ted Egawa is President & CEO of Canon Canada. Whether all decisions on pricing and rebates in Canada must be reviewed and agreed upon by Canon USA is unknown.

Additional points... Canon, Inc management out of Japan not only sits on the boards of Canon USA but also is the well from which management is chosen to run global Canon companies around the world. For instance, check out Joe Adachi's profile. Note the connections with Canon, Inc and other divisions globally. Search around in the Bloomberg database on the various companies and management personnel for Canon. Japan most likely controls what it wants, when it wants.

As to the pricing of printers in the USA, it most likely has shown to be profitable, as The Hat said, as so it continues. It's the Gillette razor blade model -- give away the razor and sell the blades. The market may not be big enough in Canada to support this business model. Or, maybe, Canon doesn't like Canada. Too cold and bad sushi! :idunno

I will chime in here. The % of the population who will use printers in the USA is far greater than what it is in Canada...especially when it comes to using these machines for business. I suspect the same holds in the Europe as well. Reason? disposable income and greater % of people who will try and form a businesses around imaging and print.
Far more people have side businesses in Photography in the USA....as a % of population.

Which leads to us buying all sorts of things we don't need, printers excluded of course. ;)

Does the "New And Improved" marketing gimmick work outside the USA? True story - I saw on a can of "Original Recipe" baked beans the sales pitch "New And Improved". How does that work?
