How come youre nearly always right, because I have to agree with you?

Taking the covers off the printer first would certainly be the right thing for any sane
minded person to do and there lies the nub of the problem.

I usually try it my way first and if it fails then do it the right way,
the shortcut always has a head start when I am going to do something crazy.

The printer wouldnt pass inspection for a service call thats for sure,
but I dont really care about that, once it prints ok I am happy with it.. :)

nice job on the CLI221 and CLI8 measurements, probably similar 36% difference in the PGI220/PGI5 carts

also nice find on the simplified service manual for the IP4700

i did some poking around and found others:

good progress being made here for all, the PGI5's and CLI8's are so much easier to refill

Epson, Canon, HP... A "few"
Finally caught up on this after a month of silliness precluding a visit...

Now understand why you've been frothing at the mouth Brian and getting all excited... Bit passed the point of "normal" usage but certainly fun for those with more time, less sanity :)

I would like to see it in action. Can you make a short clip with the cover open and printing?

Hi Tudor,
I wasnt joking; trying to get a decent video of this printer working was very tricky,
far easier to convert the printer than it was to video it.

When the top lid of the 4700 is left open there are two light sensors and a trip switch to fool before the printer will start to print,
done that eventfully so here it is, warts and all..

Thank you for the video! Got any of the cartridges to run out of ink yet? I'm still curious about the prism warning.

Great post and very interesting video. It certainly gives a very much clearer idea of how hard printers work when on full colour work. It is tempting to investigate converting my MP 620 to the larger and clear CLi-8 carts. However I have accumulated about 4 sets of the 521 series plus the resetter, have to see what the CLi-8 empty cart availability is like.

Thanks again The Hat

Yes the cyan blue came up ages ago with the low ink warning which I ignored for a while,
I just didnt have the time to refill it.

I eventfully had to take the cyan cart out and refill it there and then because I dont have another spare set of CLI-8s available just yet, not to worry Tudor the prism picked up the empty reservoir straight away just like it would with the 521 cart installed.

barfl2 have to see what the CLi-8 empty cart availability is like.
The big advantage is longer times between refills and not having small cartridges in my refill stocks any more, I did relabelled the five CLI-8 carts for easier recognition.. :)
