I have to buy a new printer now that my Canon has packed up for good.
What printer is a good one to buy that gives good service that can take cheap generic cartridges like the Canon i560 ?
I suggest the old Canon all-in-one, the MP780. There seems to be an increase of these on eBay lately. I recently bought two for significantly less than $100. Sometimes there is something wrong with them that can be fixed but many of them claim to be in good working order. This printer is not as fast as the later models with chipped cartridges (which I refuse to buy) and it lacks some of the later features (like the ability to copy double sided originals automatically) but you can get very cheap generic cartridges for it as it uses the same cartridges as the i560.
However, I would suggest that you refill original Canon cartridges using the German method. It is very easy, clean and fast, so fast, you don't even need a spare set of cartridges.
Thanks for the info. Well here in South Africa the MP780 is not freely available.
The local printer shop that does not sell printers, but only ink and paper etc recommended me to buy a Canon iP4600 and they sell the ink cartridges at a very good price. Almost the same as the i560
You cannot find any old models in new sel-in-box condition. Watch the classified ad in South Africa. I find an MP600 which uses the PGI-5 and CLI-8 cartridges. It was listed a week ago. gumtree is similar to Kijiji.
Use Canon to look up the ink cartridges used in the printer that you are interested in. The printer that use BCI-3e, BCI-6 are good. PGI-5 and CLI-8 is good too but you need to buy a resetter. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=SupportIndexAct
Ip4600 is a good one to consider. If you have already bought it you will not want to buy those cheap aftermarket ink cartridges with autoreset chips on them. You may save money on the cartridges but they will destroy your print head sooner or later.
