Used Canon PIXMA iP4000 printers are selling on eBay for more that a new ip4500 (item #220221516933, for example). Are buyers paying a premium because the BCI-6 ink tanks are easier to refill than CLI-8 tanks?

In general it'll be because the ink monitoring system in the iP4000 is not disabled by any chips or "Tie-in" firmware.

And, the 1p4000 is very cheap to run, whether refilling or using compatibles.

Even genuine Canon cartridges for this model are much cheaper than Canon's newer chipped carts.

An ip3000 or 4000 is still a great buy if it has not been overused.
