Suggestion for oil/grease-resistant paper for fortune cookie messages?

You are probably right about that incompatibility; not being from the printing industry, I had to try. Hot lamination will be added to the list of things to try, if it can be done with a bio plastic that is both food safe and biodegradable.

How does the fortune cookie company do it?! They use paper, right?

That’s what I’ll try to find next. It sure looks like paper, but a lab analysis will tell me more precisely about it and about coating used, if any.

You’re right also about industrial cookies using vegetable oils instead of butter. Considering how good people find our cookies taste, I’ll try to stick with that ingredient unless no solution is found.

I visited a Chinese restaurant once where they had edible paper on their fortune cookies. I thought the waitress was joking around until I noticed that the customer next to me ate the paper. It was a weird experience.

Maybe edible paper for cake printing with edible inks is oil/grease resistant and usable for the fortune cookies?
