Possibly a silly question about Epson printers inks

Hi forum,

I bought a second hand Epson R1800 on Ebay. It came today, I plugged it in. According to the flashing lights, the red cartridge needs replacing but the other inks are all full. Yet the printer won't allow me to print in black and white.

Is this normally the case with Epson printers? Just cos ONE cartridge is empty, the others won't work?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I've never owned an EPSON printer before, so just want to make sure this is normal, and not something wrong with my printer!

Is completely normal, you need to replace the empty cartridge and you should be good to go.
