I bought a new Epson 7800 four years ago, assembled it, but have never turned it on. Will the printer work if I power it up and fill it with ink?

About the only question I would have is whether or not you installed the cartridges or not..

If not, it's possible the liquid in the printhead (assuming there is any) will be some sort of inert chemical to protect the printhead (as Canon do with theirs, no idea with Epson) so hopefully you would be ok..

Some question as to any rubber parts such as head cleaning mini screen wipers (again, not sure if the 7800 has these) but nothing that a service center couldn't check out for you.

Hmm... to be honest I'd be sorely tempted to take the printer to a service agent, and ask them to check it over before you fire it up. It might save you a lot of hassle long term.
