Thanks. Trying to learn all I can about my new Epson ET-8550 wide format (13x19). I hope to be able to print "good enough" prints to sell at local tourist shops, etc. Wow, good paper is expensive! Just bought some Epson Velvet Fine Art cotton rag... $4 a sheet for 13x19!
Plus, I'm hoping that I can use this printer for test prints, before I order any large format prints... on metal etc.

Welcome and have fun with the 8550. I'd like to have one but I got six printers now, but when one of them dies....

I think Epson made a smart move on the Ecotanks. Many people stayed away from printing as costs were too high for ink carts. Likely made a lot of bad prints or ones with off colors, and they gave up, complained, and moved on. The end result must hurt the printing community as a whole.

And yes, the paper selection is immense, and there are some very expensive ones out there. I use Freestyle Paper selections in Los Angeles as they carry maybe the most extensive selection of papers I've seen. Attended one of their "Papers of the World" seminars and was impressed with all the papers and how the guy running the show (Owner or manager?) selects one for the final image. Demonstrated the importance of profiling over the generic paper profiles too (No printers are alike.).

Printers fail when you just don't let them print for a long time - no usage is more deadly for a printer than usage........
