Epson R300 error service required. I can't remove the cover to clean!

I am trying to remove the cover on my R300 so I can get to the sponges. The front side by the card reader is stuck and I can't lift off the cover so I can clean the sponges back there. Anyone here remove the sponges. I got one out but the others seem to be stuck and I just get chunks of the sponge with pliers. Help!

There si no need to clean the sponge on the R300. You can reset the counter by using SSC service utility :

Eventually, the sponge WILL get full and could possibly generate a huge mess. The plain and simple solution for this printer is to set up an external waste ink tank and you are good to go. Check this thread :
