I've got an EPSON stylus C42, which I recently put in very cheap ink cartridges (silly mistake) but now when trying to use it I get an error saying that " some parts in the printer were beyond their service life and prompting us to contact a service engineer" This happened as soon as I put in the cheap cartridges, is there anyway getting round this or is it dead?

I guess it may be chip problem. As the compatible chip didn't record the same message with OEM, the printer didn't recognize it as original one. Just change it.

For some brand of compatibles, after installation the printer will say "it's not an original cartridge" or something like that. When you press "OK", it will start printing and don't show this message any more.
