After a company in China started selling inkjet ID cards and ID trays for the Epson CD/DVD printers hat could be used to print ID cards (see http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae23/DCWornock/TrayIDCard.jpg or http://tiny.cc/RgoHK), Epson discontinued the R280 and replaced the R280 with the almost identical Artisan 50. Epson also discontinued and replaced the all-in-ones that would print to CD/DVD and print ID cards.

The reason Epson replaced the R280 with the Artisan 50 was to prevent people from using their CD/DVD printers to print ID cards. You can still use the Artisan 50 to print ID cards using inkjet ID cards, but it will only print in the designated CD/DVD areas and results in IDs with rounded corners and/or a small circle that is not printed. For an example, see http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae23/DCWornock/IDArtisan50.jpg or http://tiny.cc/IDcard

Since the R280 and other earlier models of Epson CD/DVD printers would print on the entire surface area of the ID cards, Epson went to a lot of extra expense to prevent people from using their CD/DVD printers to print ID cards.

However, since the Artisan 50 is almost identical to the R280, likely there is just a minor hardware or software change. Since it would be less expensive to change software than hardware, it may be that the primary modification is in the driver.

Does anyone know how to modify the Artisan 50 or its driver so ID cards can be printed without rounded corners just like printing ID cards can be done using the R280 and other earlier model Epson CD/DVD printers?
