Does anybody know if the CLI-8 chips are color specific. I have a few sets from my iP5200 and now I have a iP6700D. I don't want to have to buy a another set of PC and PM so that I have a complete extra set if I don't have to. I would like to use the C and M as a spare PM and PC id possible. Has anybody done or tried this?

Yes, they are color specific. Canon does this so that if you make a mistake in plugging in your cartridges with wrong colors in wrong slots it will be detected by the printer. It will display a warning message and it will not allow you to print before the error is corrected. You have to buy additional PC and PM unfortunately.

Epson, Canon, HP... A "few"
The PC, PM being confused with C and M carts was one of the few good reasons for the chips...

I lost count of the number of people I heard about thinking they'd screwed up their printer because it was printing out brown instead of blue, etc... All because of a PM instead of an M cart in their ip4000 :)
