Canon Pro-10 print head jammed

This site is amazing. Printer has worked fine for years but has complained with B200 lately ... Needs various button pressing and restarts to clear. Now print carriage is hiding on the right hand side and lights flashing white/orange in 10's. With the amazing help of another post on this site I managed to get the covers off ... Only broke two clips ! Fantastic instructions but my own heavy hands.
I cannot move the carriage by hand. Applying power ... Silence ... and repeat of light sequence.
Nearest service centre is around 1,000km and new head is half of the cost of new printer ... And Would that fix it.
Is this terminal .. Can I move head and restart ... Reset ink pad counter ... Clean waste reservoir ?
It would be shame to assign to the skip ... Although first step would be to offer for parts ... Shame.

You probably know that error B200 sooner or later forces the user to get a new printhead, meaning really NEW from a reputable Canon dealer. As most users (me included ) you waited too long and now the carriage is locked inside. Only solution : remove the top cover. Here is where I don’t quite follow you. If you managed to remove the top cover, the print carriage is now accessible and nothing prevents you from removing the printhead. Retire all the cartridges, lift the securing lever and pull off the printhead.

You may know also that a new printhead is no total guarantee that the printer will come back to life. There’s a small but disturbing possibility that the old printhead damaged the logic board of the printer before dying itself, so you’ll have to take your chances. Sorry, this is how Canon printers are made.

Oh dear ! That is bad news. I did indeed push my luck.
Sorry for not being clear ... I have removed the covers, the ink cartridges and the print head. The carriage is still locked and I feared that just replacing the head would not change a lot and I still needed to reset the ink pad counter ??
Trip to the skip ?

You don't need to unblock the head carriage (although there's a way to do it rotating some gears and levers).
As you removed the old printhead you can install a new one with the carriage still locked. If you're not unlucky and the logic board hasn't been damaged, just reinstall everything back ( cartridges, cover .. ) and then turn the machine on. The printer will recognize the new printhead, unblocking the carriage and you're good to go.
