    So is this the platen pad for an Epson NX430? If that is... it looks easily user replaceable, and anyway, I've put a tissue on it before and Ink just drained right into the tissue.

    Try alcohol - even vodka will do :) Works on carpet (for dye ink).

    I think it may be something to do with Durabrite inks being pigment based and the CISS system from Ink Republic using dye-based ink.
