    Water killed my print head

I've been going through an alternating cycle of vinegar soak and Pharmacist's mix and was getting better results until I got a clog which caused gradual starvation of the the magenta ink. No matter how many times I tried to clean the magenta nozzle it would just got worse until no magenta was...

    Water killed my print head

Thanks folks who offered advice and tips.:thumbsup I've got the distilled vinegar today and first soaked it for 0.5 hrs but still had nozzle problem so gave the head another soak this time for 1hr. Bad news is although I got the darkest cyan working but the lighter shades of cyan and magenta...

    Water killed my print head

Thanks guys for the help. I'm pretty sure the ammonia I got is the right one. I got it from an independent discount store and it is a white bottle with a full face yellow label and has a potent vapour, nearly knocked me out the first time :D Never thought vinegar could be thwart with choice...

    Water killed my print head

I've had no errors from the printer. I've went to the grocery store earlier today for white vinegar but couldn't find any. They did have distilled malt vinegar which is water clear in appearance. Is this the same thing?

    Water killed my print head

I used ionized water, 20% isopropyl alcohol and a few drops of ammonia as soaking solution. The print head was laid with the head down onto soaked tissue paper with enough solution to cover the inlets. Haven't tried the vinegar solution yet, leaving that as a last resort as I'll need to buy...

    Water killed my print head

The 2 days of soaking turned into 6. Unfortunately had to go away for a few days. At least it had plenty of time the clean any clogs, but it seems it has not made any difference. :( These are the latest nozzle output:- I can't understand how rinsing in warm water has ruined a good print...

    Water killed my print head

One thing that has puzzled me, from the nozzle test, all the colours have streaks but only the pigment black remains perfect. Is it because the nozzles are larger or what?

    Water killed my print head

That sounds like a good routine to keep the printer in good shape. I don't print many pages so chances of clogging would be quite high. After soaking in Windex, do you rinse off the Windex and dry the head before reinstall into printer.

    Water killed my print head

I've still got my print head soaking in the cleaning solution so cannot make any good nozzle printing. However I have tons of scrap copies printed on paper I've recycled so will have printing on the reverse side which faintly shows through. This one is the normal nozzle test, please ignore the...

    Water killed my print head

Thanks for the pointer. Haven't tried it, but did look at the ingredients but could not found ammonia on the list. Since no one has actually tried the new version I was skeptic that it would be suitable. I've now mix my own so can be confident of what in there.

    Water killed my print head

Thanks Grandexp. Reading your experience has brought some comfort that my print head could be OK as I was worried that it might be irreversible. I'm now soaking the head with a solution of ionized water, 20% Isopropyl alcohol, and 1% ammonia overnight but will leave it two nights now for a...

    Water killed my print head

When I said hot water I meant water that I would not feel uncomfortable as I was holding the print head in my hand whilst water poured over the head. I used the same cartridges used before I cleaned the head and the nozzle test was perfect, I now wished I never bothered cleaning the head :(...

    Water killed my print head

I recently got an old IP4500 printer. When I first used it with fresh compatible cartridges it produced a perfect nozzle check print. As the print head was very dirty with old dried ink and also wanted to switch ink type so I flushed the head with hot water first on the head side followed by...
