You can still buy the Brother DPC197C printer it uses LC980 cartridges which are not chiped not the most fantastic of printers though

well it should work on any OS that the printer driver will install possibly even win8 in compatibility mode Apple Mac no idea Linux definitely not ;(

Well i suppose i should have said that i had checked, and the two cartridges flashing are full to the same level as the new Canon originals i have only done a few test prints as yet so is it the optical sensor that triggers the red led flash or the chip? as i have not had one of these chipped...

yes i did consider doing that but have read that a bad circuit board can kill a new print head, cant decide if its worth the risk and yes i did a few cleaning cycles when i first noticed the problem no improvement.:(

Hi Hmm the spare print head was bought for my IP4000R which i use much more then the i865, so dont think i will chance it. i was just a hope that someone had encountered the same patten nozzle check and could say it was definitely the print head.

Brother printer DPC120C rescued one of these on its way to the trash does anyone have any experience with these old printers The manual says print head technology Piezo so im going to try it on some Epson ink unless anyone thinks this is a really bad idea. The cartridges are so easy to refill...
