Flashforge Adventurer 5M (AKA "The Mrs. Left me unsupervised with an amazon order")

I switched to a different plate, it wasn't really successful so I went back to the textured PEI plate. I also added some LED strip lights just above the printer so I have better vis while printing. The 5M doesn't have any lights included. So for that experiment, lights==good. Alternate...

Flashforge Adventurer 5M (AKA "The Mrs. Left me unsupervised with an amazon order")

How not to change filament. On the AD5M, to change, you clip the filament at the top of the extruder, run the last bit through as you add your new filament, and carry on. Well, I clipped wrong. I spent several hours trying to chase down the problem thinking I had messed up settings or...

Flashforge Adventurer 5M (AKA "The Mrs. Left me unsupervised with an amazon order")

Bed adhesion on the textured plate has been a bit of a pain. Some filament works fine, some filament loses adhesion halfway through a print. Spent the weekend methodically working through various permutations to try and find a "one size fits all" solution with the included flashprint slicer...

Flashforge Adventurer 5M (AKA "The Mrs. Left me unsupervised with an amazon order")

I've had a Monoprice Voxel/Flashforge Adventurer 3 for a few months that was gifted to me by a buddy. Great printer, but it was slow and really only liked PLA. So I've been kinda looking for a faster upgrade that could handle other filament types. Found a great deal the on the Adventurer 5M...

One of my other hobbies is painting, and I do paint pours quite a bit. I printed some split cups to use for pouring. Each section of the cup is a different color (or colors) and then you pour them together to get the flowy, organic patterns typical of acrylic pours. Then, you pour a nice single...

    What Are You Printing Today?

Got the Mrs. a new nerd car. Oddly, a sunglasses holder was not among the bells and whistles it came equipped with. So I made one out of ABS, lined it with some "felt" padding, and stuck it on with double side high temp 3M tape. My ABS kung-fu needs work. This took 3 tries fiddling with temp...

I think it was my garbage lenovo laptop. I needed to have it re-imaged for Windows 11 a couple of weeks ago and pulled some strings to just get a new one instead. Hasn't happened since.

Before/after. This camera has a habit of resetting the USB connection and re-enbabling itself. So, I have it a little hat.

    What Are You Printing Today?

I had some stuff queued up to run once I got access to an FDM, so I'm knocking them out in rapid succession. Did 3 of these little bud vases yesterday to go with the roses I printed last month. Image is shot in front of a mirror to show the color variation in the PLA. The odd-looking "parting...

Stringy on the fine detail at this scale. Bed was 55c nozzle was 221c. Both within spec for the PLA. However, I"'m taking it as a successful learning lesson.

    What Are You Printing Today?

Oh I've been printing for a bit. This is just my first FDM machine. My existing setup is resin SLA, so now I will get to explore the joys of jammed nozzles, funky extruder heads, and all that jazz. Which reminds me. Anyone have favorite filament brands? I ordered some elegoo to play with while...

You will be excited to learn I'm picking up a monoprice voxel tomorrow from a friend who upgraded to a Bambu A1, Free.99! Works fine, he just wanted a bigger plate printer that wasn't as finicky.

I have a not-insignificant list of things needed to get done before we host family for Christmas, so what do I do instead? That's right, whip up some bespoke stocking tags instead. :p Illustrator-->Tinkercad-->Lychee-->print. screen grab from lychee Rough blanks after printing and an alky...

    What Are You Printing Today?

Thanks! I've been eyeing some omtech units for laser. I'd like to be able to engrave steel bottles (think hydroflasks) and they have machines and fixtures that make it easy. I'm having a time justifying the expense too, so I feel you on that.

    What Are You Printing Today?

It was a pair of STL's that I had to adapt slightly to work together. I liked the stem from one but not the petals, and I like the petals from another but they didn't have a provision for any kind of lighting. I punched a hole through for some either fiber or small LED's in the petal assembly...

    What Are You Printing Today?

Christmas prezzie for the Mrs. She loves roses but they always die. So I made her one that won't. Roughs after printing using elegoo transparents. Finished. Lots of hand wet/dry sanding to 3000 grit, then a clear resin topcoat to restore the transparency. The petals also had a bit of shimmer...

    3D LED sign..

Epic experiment. If you decide to try this again later, You could use translucent vinyl to cover them. Same colored effect, and less ink rubbing off. You can also shoot them with an acrylic poly clearcoat to lock in the ink as well.

    What Are You Printing Today?

This one was annoying to print. The walls are very thin and it failed a couple of times. The original flame model walls were about the thickness of tissue paper and I had to correct that. Colored using alcohol inks after printing and curing. The light is a 3mm flicker LED powered by a 9v...
